Water bottle umbrella
WATER, WATER : Now you can drink it too

Ojasvi Goel, VIII, Vasanth Valley School, Delhi

I always wanted to use the water that was getting wasted. When it rains there is water everywhere. But what does one do when he/she is thirsty? We carry an umbrella and I often wondered what I could do with it. That's when the idea struck me. Stay protected and have water to drink.

The concept : An umbrella which I worked on could double up as a water storer. Costing only about Rs. 20 more, it is also viable. Water hits the umbrella when it rains and that goes down through a pipe and gets collected in a bottle. This water is 100 per cent pure being the first shower.

Future plans: while the patenting is under process Ojasvi does not believe in waiting. His head is bursting with ideas and he is planning on making a nautomatic drink stirrer.

Clothesline with sensor and motor
RAIN, RAIN : The clothesline did it

Piyush Agrawal, XII, DAV Public School, Hazaribagh

It happened during the time when my mom was very ill. During the monsoons it was tough for her to keeping taking the clothes on and off the clothesline because of the rain. That's when this idea struck me and I decided to free her of this additional work.

The concept : A clothesline that works on the principle using a sensor and a motor. The sensor senses the moisture in the air and when it is about to rain it triggers an alarm to the motor which then starts puling it into the shade. And depending on the length of the clothesline the timer can be adjusted for the motor to stop.

Future plans : The patent is under process and he will soon start thinking afresh.

WATER = DIAMONDS! by Kritika Shah

One of the most well-known facts around the literate world concerning water is that three-quarters of the earth's surface is consumed by water bodies. But the incredibility of this fact has become its notoriety by allowing the new generation, a.k.a us, to believe  that this irreplaceable element is available in infinite quantities. This is where the biggest mistake of the present and the future - we have overestimated the ubiquity of useful water and undermined the importance of its permanence; most of the water available on our planet cannot be put to daily use and is certainly disappearing.

What's more, we refuse to accept that the dearth and misuse of water( to add on to our misconceptions about it) is a serious issue. Without water, we simply cannot exist! Just like the Earth, the human body consists mainly of water. To be precise, three-quarters of our anatomy is water-based. As if that isn't enough to say that H2O is a necessity, among our daily mundane activities such as bathing comprise of water.

To add on, water is an incontrovertible ingredient in cooking and products that help to nurture our well-being. From cooking a simple broth to the base of a moisturizer, water is beyond vital! So take a second to appreciate the beauty of nature and its precious gift of water to us.

Take a second to learn about it. Take a second to act on it. Take a second because we truly are the ultimate holders of the future. Take a second before its too late!

Receding Waters by Ms T V Uma, Kendriya Vidyalaya NAL, Bangalore

It trickles and collects, dissolves and disappears, condenses and evaporates, freezes and melts, pollinates and disperses, it is the media for origin of life, it exists in all three states, generates power, pollinates & disperses, transports………………does it have an end?

Traditionally one of the panchabuthas, scientifically an amazing compound, universally like all pervasive GOD, a wonderful solvent, biologically a life support system, poetically a beautiful maiden, goddess for saints……….it is not two , not three but a multidimensional entity. Through ages water is looked at different angles by different people. Would it not be interesting to ponder what it is for a child, a scientist, an environmentalist, and most importantly A TEACHER?
